   Course Summary
Using real case studies, this course focuses on best practice in the diagnostic assessment of SpLD/Dyslexia at Key Stages 3 and 4. A day designed for assessors in SpLD to gain or refresh their knowledge in the assessment of students at KSt 3/4, including pertinent factors related to this age range and how to write accessible, informative reports. The analysis of data and learner profiles to form confident conclusions is discussed in actual cases.
   Course Detail

This day has been designed for specialist teachers/ assessors in SpLD working with secondary age students who wish to refresh their skills in the assessment of learners at Key stages 3 and 4. It will focus on the production of a well written diagnostic assessment report which takes account of both the quantitative and qualitative information gathered to enable schools to understand the needs of the students. It will discuss the factors to be considered when assessing this age range, including those students whose specific difficulties have been not been previously diagnosed, and the principles underpinning the selection of tests at secondary level.  Using actual case studies, it will discuss the analysis of the data and the learner profile to form a confident conclusion. 

On the day delegates will explore

·         The essential foundation work of collecting background information, role of screening in the process and how to choose appropriate diagnostic tests to meet the needs of older students

·         Analysing strengths and weaknesses, identifying protective and compensatory factors when drawing conclusions

·         A structured approach to report writing that meets the SASC guidelines for good assessment practice

·         Presenting outcomes in an accessible style that is appropriate for a range of audiences

·         Looking for signs of co-occurrence, how to report this and referring on to other professionals
