Description
Session 1: Struggles with reading and spelling fluency: understanding the role of orthographic processing
Session 2: Analysing and Addressing orthographic processing difficulties
Session 3: Orthography in the context of diagnostic assessors' professional practice
Learning outcomes
Objectives:
By the end of the sessions, participants will be able to:
-Define orthography
-Explain the limitations of a synthetic phonics approach for children with orthographic processing difficulties
- Through the analysis of samples of free writing identify the sources of knowledge children are using when spelling
-Plan for intervention to address difficulties in orthographic processing to improve spelling accuracy and reading fluency
-Implement current SASC guidance with regard to considering orthography in diagnostic assessments
-Consider assessment tools which promote consideration of orthography and relevant report writing guidance
Course prerequisites
Attendees should hold or be working towards a Level 5/7 qualification in SpLD/Dyslexia.
