   Course Summary
This course updates assessors on new guidance in diagnostic report writing. The day will focus on the new formats for both pre 16 and post 16 reports. Delegates will explore the importance of background information and review core principles in interpretation of assessment results. They will develop their understanding of how to produce an accessible and reliable overview, and review the information in the appendices. The criteria for a successful renewal of an APC will be discussed.
   Course Detail

 

The course will include the following:

 

·     Why do we assess? An exploration of the purpose for identification and the role of the assessment in planning appropriate support.

 

·     What makes a good report: synthesising background information and the information gathered during assessment in a coherent, appropriate and useful way.

 

·     A review of the assessment process.

 

·     New report formats.  A review of the way in which the formats were reviewed by SASC and what they aim to achieve: accessibility, consistency, reliability, clarity

 

·     A detailed analysis of the sections of the new report formats, including the overview and appendices and how the format differs from previous formats.

 

·     Review of core principles: normal distribution curve, low ability scores, explaining differences in scores, confidence intervals, test selection, recommendations

 

·     The process of APC renewal: an exploration of effective assessment reports, the criteria for a successful renewal

 

·      A review of recent SASC guidance on visual difficulties, dyscalculia, DIDA (for adults)4threnewal of an APC, additional CPD for first APC

 

·      An opportunity to explore a case study and how this information gathered in an assessment may be used in an overview
