The course is for specialist teachers/assessors who wish to develop their knowledge and practice in the identification of Dyspraxia/DCD in those who are aged sixteen years and above. The course will focus upon

Understanding the diagnostic classification of Dyspraxia/DCD

Understanding the core features of Dyspraxia/DCD and its impact upon the post 16 learner

The use of semi-structured interviews and checklists to gather diagnostic information

Detailed study of how the specific subtests currently used in the diagnostic assessment of Dyspraxia/DCD (WRIT, CTOPP2, SDMT, DASH 17+ and the BEERY VMI) contribute to a diagnostic picture of a Dyspraxia/DCD profile

The interpretation of the assessment data

Framing the conclusions and building recommendations for intervention

An exploration of how the recommendations may inform an effective support plan

  • • Identify the assessments required to formulate the identification and assessment of Dyspraxia/DCD
  • • Identify specific patterns within assessment results which may suggest Dyspraxia/DCD
  • • Understand how to frame conclusions and recommendations within their reports thereby meeting the guidelines of the DfES SpLD Working party report
