The SEND Code
of Practice, places the ‘Assess, Plan, Do , Review' central to the effective
support and teaching of students with Specific
Learning Difficulties (SpLD). This practical course is an opportunity for specialist teachers/assessor working
with primary/ secondary students to extend their knowledge and gain confidence
in the assessment and support of students with complex SpLD profiles.

Exploring
multiple deficit models of SpLD, how the latter explains high levels of
co-occurrence and implication for assessment and ‘diagnosis' including
assessment for co-occurring difficulties.
·
Investigate
protective, compensatory factors as of the dyslexic profile and the need for
multiple measures of reading.
·
Review
importance of individual profiles of strengths and weaknesses in planning
intervention, for a successful programme to be planned, to do, then to be
reviewed.

Delegates are invited to bring case
studies from their own working practice for discussion, as these case studies
will be used to,
illustrate how to develop appropriate assessment practice and devise
individually tailored intervention programmes
